The Driver Gear exists because of a fuel-island argument we kept having. Every "best truck gear" list we found read like it was written by somebody who'd never spent a full day in a seat, never tried to cook dinner in a parking lot in February, never had a dash cam fail the one time it mattered. So we do it our way: read the specs, dig through real driver reviews, line products up side by side, and score them on the same 20-point rubric — every time, no exceptions.

We're not a lab. We don't have a test track. What we do is the research a careful driver would do before spending their own money — then we publish the score, the reasons, and exactly who each product is (and isn't) for. If a cushion ruins backs at hour nine, the score says so. If a cooler can't hold temperature through a hot parking-lot afternoon, it loses points. The number is the point. Everything else is the receipt.

How we score

Every product goes through the same 20-point rubric covering performance, build quality, and value. Specs get checked. Real driver reviews get read — the angry ones especially. The best-selling thing on Amazon doesn't automatically win — it has to earn the score like everything else.

How this site makes money

What we won't do

• We won't claim we tested a product in the cab if we didn't. What you read is research-based scoring, and we'll always tell you which is which.
• We won't bump a score for a sponsor. There are no sponsors.
• We won't recommend gear we wouldn't buy with our own money.
• We won't bury the bad news. The score goes public either way.
